“The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” is a pangram (a phrase that contains all of the letters of the alphabet). It has been used to test typewriters and computer keyboards, and in other applications involving all of the letters in the English alphabet, because it is also a short coherent sentence.

As the use of typewriters grew in the late 19th century, the phrase began appearing in typing and stenography lesson books as a practice sentence. Early examples of publications which utilized the phrase include Illustrative Shorthand by Linda Bronson (1888),[1] How to Become Expert in Typewriting: A Complete Instructor Designed Especially for the Remington Typewriter (1890), and Typewriting Instructor and Stenographer’s Hand-book (1892).

By the turn of the century, the phrase had become widely known. In the January 10, 1903 issue of Pitman’s Phonetic Journal, it is referred to as “the well known memorized typing line embracing all the letters of the alphabet”.[2] Robert Baden-Powell’s book Scouting for Boys (1908) uses the phrase as a practice sentence for signalling.[3]

A few variations of this pangram exist, including “the quick brown fox jumps over a lazy dog”, and “a quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog”. Each of these variations has 33 letters, compared to 35 in the original version. “the quick fox jumps over the lazy brown dog” also makes sense, particularly as foxes are not traditionally considered to be brown.

The version “a quick brown fox jumps over a lazy dog”, and any version with the word jumped in the past tense eliminate one or more letters and hence, are not pangrams. A valid pangram variation is “the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog’s back”.

This pangram is commonly used to display font samples.

I’m doing extracting zone value from a section to certain position defined before, so called station number in map info. There are 7 section, elongated north to south one of them, and the remaining is elongated west to east. I’m doing this so I can see the distribution of zone value laterally. I was made it only in surface 0, 25, 50, 75, 100. We found a discontinuity in surface 50. The distribution seems go wrong, because the gridding of 25 and 75 are continued. I don’t know, so I cut it more detail, in every 10 meter. When I trace it in baseline (NS), i found my mistake assign false number. It assigned 1 instead of 4. Gee, since I have only 4 zone value, this is really a fatal mistake!

Lumayan juga dah beres-beres dapur nyuci-nyuci piring mangkok panci sendok garpu Beuhh! Just like the oldschool, maksudna dulu waktu masi di kantor lama, waktu personil kita cuma kurang dari 5 en lum punya OB… kita emang giliran nyuci piring gelas sendok garpu dsb. Tapi kan jaman sudah berubah sekarang. Personel dah banyak, kantor pun dah pindah, OB juga udah punya. Namun yaa nampaknya OB kita ini masih perlu pembinaan.

Tadi sore kubilang bahwa supaya itu piring gelas sendok garpu dsb tolong dibersihkan dulu. Eeh dia malah minta izin mau nganter sodaranya yang dari Ciamis untuk ke Bandung. Tapi dia bilang sebelum maghrib mau kembali lagi kemari dan mencuci itu urusan.

Ampe isya sekarang ni tak nongol juga. Mataku sakit ngelihat itu dapur berserakan… akhirnya kusingsingkan juga lengan baju (cuma majas, sebenernya aku pake lengan pendek). Alhamdulillah pinggang lumayan nyeri hehehe… udah tua emang yaa??….

Besok-besok tu OB tak nasihatin terus, supaya jangan meninggalkan kantor sebelum mendapatkan izin dan pekerjaan selesai. yahh.. sebenernya masih banyak sekali yang harus dibenahi di sini…
